We've done a lot ...
but there's so much more to be done!
Our songbirds' habitat is restricted more and more. The gardens are less and less sufficient for the needs of our feathered companions. Well maintained lawns and flower beds, insecticide and monocultures complicate foraging for this cheerful crowd. Songbirds prefer floral meadows or conventional orchards as their typical habitat. The tall fruit trees provide suitable breeding sites and also the opportunity to hunt for insects. As insectivores these most pleasing companions live in our latitudes in the summer months only. They spend the winter months in pleasantly warm to hot climate countries. But along the migration routes the birdss are exposed to several hazards.
Ten thousand kilometers away from us, in the swimming paradise of Thailand, our feathered friends are hunted. Surrounded by a hot climate, pure sunshine, endless sandy beaches, one or the other delicious cocktail in hand, so pure a holiday feeling, we are offered songbirds as a delicacy! Some land on menus and other poor creatures are offered on markets as an attraction for tourists. In small cages, almost paralyzed by the heat, supposedly animal friendly fellows are offered to put an end to the suffering of the birds. One chooses ab animal and gives it back its freedom in the presence of many onlookers. Open the birdcage and here we go into a lustful life. Unfortunately, many of these birds have lived under extreme stress and find it difficult to return to their former habitat. And a good number of them land in the same cages a short time later. Among all these aspects, it is very important to us to end this abuse. Thailand has countless attractions. It's nonsense and unnecessary that songbirds are offered as a joke or to delight tourists!
