We've done a lot ...
but there's so much more to be done!
After gloomy and above all very long-lasting, cold and changeable weather in wintertime ... finally the first warm rays. Who wouldn't enjoy this awakening of nature! Everything about us wakes up from the so-called hibernation. An almost endless twittering, chirping, trilling and singing deliciously starts in parks, gardens, courtyards, and terraces where our feathered friends, the songbirds, settle anew. Taking their gracefulness into account, it's all the more unimaginable that these lovely creatures are still being captured internationally, like the illegal songbird hunting in Carinthia!
Goldfinch, Reed Bunting, finches, starlings, robins and Twite are used in mini cages by poachers to attract their conspecifics.
Even nets and lime sticks, to which the animals are stuck, serve the poachers for their profit. The captured feathery companions are sold as a delicacy to Italy.
"The songbirds are plucked and cleaned,
then thread them onto a skewer,
together with bacon and sage,
rub the bird with butter,
grill them lovingly tender for about 10 minutes,
serve them on polenta.
With the gravy ..."
And ready is the Italian national dish "Polenta e Oséi". This preparation proposal makes us literally lose our appetite.
